Picniic is a dashboard that combines all the key areas of your family life, providing a system for running your home. In reality, most calendars only help with the scheduling aspect of family life, but there are many other critical elements. From planning meals, to centralizing important family information, to knowing where your kids are located at any one moment — Picniic's goal is to bring all your family activities and data into one place. This allows everyone to stay more connected and in sync as a family unit.
While traditional calendars were created for individuals, the Picniic calendar was created from the ground up specifically for the family. We approached our calendar from this family perspective, and provide you a snapshot of every family member's daily activity in one screen. This makes it easier to visualize all your family commitments, and to see where there are available openings. The additional value is that the Picniic calendar connects into the family dashboard, along with the other Picniic features, making it easier than ever to keep the whole family on the same page.
Yes. Picniic is a free download from the App Store. Creating a family account is simple and easy to do. Every member of your Family Account can access the app for free just by downloading Picniic.
If you feel like your time with Picniic is coming to an end, please send us a quick email at support@picniic.com and we'll discontinue your account, removing all of your family's personal information at the same time.

The password for your family account can be changed at any time from the Settings menu. If you've already signed in to your Family Account, you can navigate to the Settings menu by tapping the gear icon in the top right of the dashboard, then tap on Change Password near the top of the screen. If you're unable to log in and need to reset your password, you can do that by tapping Already have Family Account and then tapping on Forgot Password to have a password reset email sent to your Family Account email address.
Everyone in your family shares the same Family Account and will use the same email and password to log in. Every family member views the account from their own perspective, and you can add more family members from the within Settings menu. Each member can contribute to Picniic by adding events, to-dos, and more, and assigning them to themselves or another family member.
You can add family members when you first create your Family Account, or you can add (or remove) them after signing up from within the Settings menu. At both stages, you can invite them to your Family Account by sending a link to download Picniic, so that they can get started right away.
Quickly view any events, to-dos, and other important info by tapping your picture at the top of the dashboard. You can swipe through your family to see what's on their plate for the next 48 hours. Simply tap the close 'X' in the top right to return to the dashboard.
The Family News tile is your live activity feed of what your family is doing in Picniic. You'll see all the newly created events, to-dos, meals, and more. You can even send messages and pictures!
The Calendar is the core feature of scheduling and organizing your family. The Picniic calendar is shared between all members of your family and is the clearest way to update them with what the family is doing. And creating new events is easy. Simply tap on the '+' button in the bottom right of the Calendar tile and select Add Event. Add your event title and set the length of time the event will take. You can also have the event repeat at any interval, make it an all day event, add a location or alert, and attach a list. Additionally, all events can have one or more family members assigned to them. Any event that you're attached to will appear in the Day view of the calendar under your picture. You can tap on each family member to focus on their events for each day. This way you can easily see how busy everyone is and never miss an overlap or miscommunicate plans.
Navigating between the Month view and the Day view is simple too. You can tap on the calendar view icon in the top right of the calendar to easily switch between each view. In Month view you'll notice that the days with white dots are the days that have events assigned to you. Days with dark dots are days that members of your family have events, but are not related to you.
Picniic provides the option to do a one-time import of any calendar that you've connected to your Apple Calendar. This will copy all the events you have from your calendar to your Picniic calendar.
To access this feature, head to the Add Calendars tile on your dashboard and choose One-time events import.
Picniic also integrates with TeamSnap. If you have a TeamSnap account, you can connect it to Picniic from the TeamSnap tile on the dashboard. Picniic will update your calendar with all the events sent by TeamSnap and assign them to any of the family members you wish.
Share read-only events from other calendars (like work, sports, or school) to your Picniic family calendar. Events are updated automatically*, and you'll have the option to either show or hide the event details. Events will appear in the Day view of your family calendar.

* Changes made to events in third-party calendars may take anywhere up to 15 minutes to update in your Picniic calendar.
Share your family events in a read-only format to other calendar programs, or even another Picniic account. You have the choice of sharing your entire family schedule or only events for specific family members.

To-dos & lists are the fundamental building blocks of organization. With Picniic, you can create to-dos and lists all in the same place. Each to-do or list can be assigned to one or more family members and checked off by anyone. To create a to-do or list, simply tap on the '+' button in the bottom right of the To-Do & Lists screen and select the item you wish to create. To complete a to-do, tap on the empty circle to the left of the to-do description. Completed to-dos are not deleted automatically; but you have the option to show or hide remaining items using the toggle button at the bottom left of the screen.
If you'd like to delete a to-do, tap to open it and press the Delete button. To delete a list item, tap the '-' delete button beside each item in a list. To delete an entire list, open the list, tap Edit in the menu bar, then scroll to the bottom of the list and choose Delete this List.
Please note: Deleted items cannot be recovered.
Stay on top of all your shopping lists, separated for all your favorite stores, and keep them in sync with everyone in your family. Does one store have Dairy before Produce? Easy, just change the aisle order for that store list. And like all lists, the store lists are shared between your whole family, so adding items will update the list on everyone else's devices, no saving required.
With Picniic, you can discover new recipes from top online food websites like Jamie Oliver, Martha Stewart, Bon Appetit, Epicurious, and many more, all in one search bar. Simply type your keywords into the search bar and we'll check the best sites for recipes that match! You can add any recipe to Recipes with the tap of a button. Want to add those ingredients to your Shopping List? You can do that too. Simply tap the Add to Shopping List button.
Have an old favorite recipe that you want to add to Picniic? Write a Recipe allows you to fill out your own recipe and save it in the app. You can even add it to the Meal Planner, just like a discovered online recipe.
Plan for the week ahead by adding single meal items or recipes to any day of the week. Meals appear in your calendar at the bottom of the Day view as well as in the list in the Month view. Meals can be added or suggested by any member of the family so it's easy to find something that everyone wants for dinner.
To add a specific recipe simply tap on Choose a Recipe, then add one of your recipes to the Meal Planner. You can also move or copy any meal plan to another day of the week. Tap on the day that you want to copy or move and select the corresponding action at the bottom of the screen.
The Info Locker is an encrypted storage space for all of your need-to-know family information. We ensure that your information is secure and accessible by you and your family alone. The three areas of the Info Locker are: Key Contacts, Medical Information, and Household Information. In each section, you'll be able to add data that is relevant for your family. Want to add your Wi-Fi name and password? Store it in Household Information. Can't remember the babysitter's phone number? Check Key Contacts. Can't seem to find the healthcare policy number for your children? It'll be in Medical Information. Using the Info Locker enables you to have all of your important family information on hand at all times.
Picniic provides templates for information, but it also allows you to customize your own fields. Want to add a photo or change the title of a text field? Everything can be edited to make the Info Locker work the best for your information.
Setting a passcode for the Info Locker is simple. Tap on Add a Passcode to set a four-digit passcode that will be required to open the Info Locker. If you ever forget your passcode, you can reset it by tapping on Forgot Passcode? At Picniic, we do everything we can to protect your information, however, please be aware that resetting your passcode will erase all of the data that you've entered so far.
Group Events is a detailed polling feature that allows you to pick a series of dates and times regarding a specific event and send those selections as a single poll to anyone you wish, even non-Picniic users, via email or text message. As each person replies and selects the dates they're available, you'll be able to check the Group Events tile and see the results roll in. When you send a poll to a group of people, they will be directed to a webpage where they can vote on the dates and times you selected, as well as having the option to say they can't make it.
The Picniic Family Locator uses your device's location to update the family on where you are at any given time. The location service does not run in the background of your device or app. To update your family, you'll need to open Picniic then tap on the Family Locator tile. Opening the tile automatically updates your position on the map for all your family to see. You can manually update your location again by tapping on the green circle in the bottom right of the map. When you update your location, a push notification is sent to each of your family members' devices.
Please note: You can disable Picniic's access to your GPS location services from the Settings app on your iPhone. Additionally, your location isn't sent unless you open the Family Locator tile.
With Special Events, Picniic makes it easy to remember all of those important birthdays and anniversaries. If you entered the birthdays of your family members when you added them to your Family Account, then their dates are automatically entered here (bonus!). Adding new dates is as simple as tapping the '+' icon in the top right and following the prompts. The Special Events tile on the dashboard always displays the next event coming up in the calendar year.
